Privacy Policy

Privacy information for Chartwave visitors and users.

This page explains, in practical terms, what data Chartwave uses to generate charts and how that data is handled in the current version of the product.

Overview

Chartwave is a web tool that generates music visualizations from publicly available Last.fm listening data. This privacy page explains what information Chartwave uses, what it does with that information, and what visitors should understand before using the site.

Last.fm usernames and listening data

When you use Chartwave, you may enter a Last.fm username. Chartwave uses that username to request public listening data from the Last.fm API and related public Last.fm pages. That may include top tracks, top artists, top albums, weekly chart information, and publicly available artwork or artist images. Chartwave does not ask for your Last.fm password.

Generated chart content

The charts, album quilts, and exported images produced by Chartwave are generated from the public listening data associated with the username you provide. If you enter another person’s public Last.fm username, Chartwave will attempt to generate results based on that public profile data.

Contact submissions

The current contact form opens a draft in the visitor’s own email application. Messages are not stored in a Chartwave database by the website itself during that process. If you choose to send an email, your message is then handled by your email provider and the inbox that receives it.

Analytics, logs, and hosting

Chartwave is hosted on Vercel and uses Vercel Analytics and Vercel Speed Insights to understand traffic patterns and performance. The hosting provider may also collect standard technical data such as IP address, browser details, request logs, and performance information for security, reliability, and debugging.

Cookies

Chartwave does not currently rely on user accounts or complex personalization cookies for core functionality. However, essential platform behavior and analytics-related browser storage or request metadata may still be used as part of site delivery, traffic measurement, and performance monitoring. If advertising or additional third-party services are added later, this policy should be updated with the relevant consent and cookie details.

Third-party services

Chartwave depends on third-party services, including Last.fm, to retrieve listening data and some artwork. If you interact with external links or use services outside Chartwave, those services may apply their own privacy practices and terms.

Data retention

Chartwave is designed to generate results on demand rather than maintain a permanent user account system. If the site later begins storing submitted data, saved charts, analytics records, or support requests in a persistent way, this page should be revised to explain retention periods more specifically.

Children’s privacy

Chartwave is intended for a general audience and is not knowingly designed to collect personal information from children. If you believe personal data has been submitted in a way that should be removed, use the contact page to request review.

Policy updates

This privacy policy may be updated as Chartwave changes. If the app adds stored accounts, backend contact processing, advertising, or more extensive third-party tracking, the policy should be revised to reflect those changes.
